RELATED WORK
S.A. Bachman has been on the forefront of interdisciplinary college art education for two decades and has taught the history of mass media and television culture. She has worked in a wide range of youth programs, including media literacy awareness and GLBTQ counseling. Bachman was a founding member of the Boston Women’s Action Coalition and an organizer of WAC’s 1992 TRANS-ACTION PROJECT, a citywide motorcade that transformed cars into mobile billboards and distributed voter information.
During 2010-2011, Bachman employed outdoor projection and performance to address pedagogical debates and the privatization of schools. DISMANTLED, a collaborative project, invited the public to consider what the future holds when institutions of learning are no longer shaped by principles of accessible and affordable education. In 1988, she was commissioned by the Fabric Workshop to create ARE YOU TELLING YOURSELF A LITTLE WHITE LIE? The edition of 5 photo-silkscreen banners were installed throughout Philadelphia to address the representation of women in the media and white privilege. Between 1983-1988, she completed a series of limited edition books including: Assumptions, Soup's On, The Same Old Story, and Call Me.
